Character Q&A: Meet the Reluctant Heroine of Chaos of the Stars

She never asked to carry this magic. But it’s hers now—and she’s learning how to wield it.

🎙 A Quiet Interview in a Shifting World

Today, I’m doing something I’ve never done before:

I’m letting you peek behind the scenes—not at my writing process, but at the soul of the story itself.

Meet the reluctant heroine of Chaos of the Stars.

She’s the kind of character who doesn’t love the spotlight, but who shows up anyway.
Who doesn’t consider herself brave, but keeps moving forward.
Who never asked for power, but now has to learn how to carry it well.

For the sake of your world.
And for the sake of her own heart.

Q&A with Maleah

Setting: A flickering fire deep in the ruins. Somewhere safe—for now.

Q: What’s the first thing you think of when you wake up each day?

“Honestly, much of the time I awake and think I am back in The Keep. I spent so much of these past years in those stone-cold walls that often, the coldness of the night reminds me of my cell?”

Her voice was low. Tired. She looked down at her hands as if remembering it all again. “Then I remember I am no longer contained to those walls and force myself to take in the freedom of an open sky.”

Q: Did you ever want this life—the magic, the mission, the weight of it all?

She laughs, but it’s not lighthearted.

“No. Absolutely not. I wanted a quiet life. A small one. One that didn’t require me to run or fight or burn.” She pauses. “But I am learning that just because you did not choose the fire does not mean you were not made to stand in it.”

Q: What’s one thing you miss from your life before all of this?

“My father.”

She says it quickly. Then:

“We used to lay under the stars late at night and gaze up toward The Haven. He would tell me tales of such gallant quests, of places so far removed from our quiet village. Back then, I had once thought I would get to see the world as he did. I suppose I get to now, in a way.”

Q: What do you fear most right now?

She swallows hard. “Becoming someone I do not recognize.”

Q: And what gives you hope?

There was silence for a while. She doesn’t look at me when she answers.

“One day, this madness will end and I will get to live that quiet, still life I had dreamed of.” She cleared her throat. “But that simply is not the case. There is no rest for The Goddess of Life and Death. Now or ever.”

Final Thoughts from the Author

Writing this character has been one of the most stretching experiences of my life.

She’s complicated. Raw. And so very real to me.

She holds power she didn’t ask for.
She wrestles with guilt and identity and what it means to be both soft and strong.
She doesn’t always make the right choice—but she keeps showing up.

And maybe, in some quiet way, she’ll remind you of yourself.
