How to Finish a Story That Feels Too Big for You
Because the size of the story doesn’t disqualify you—it reveals your capacity to grow.
😔 WHEN THE STORY FEELS LIKE TOO MUCH
Chaos of the Stars felt too big for me more times than I can count.
Not just in plot and worldbuilding and pacing (though those were very real struggles).
But in weight.
In what it demanded from me.
In who I had to become to finish it.
Some scenes made me cry.
There were decisions I put off for weeks.
And don’t even get me started on the rewrites that felt like emotional surgery.
Sometimes, I’d open the document and immediately feel overwhelmed—like I was staring at a mountain with no visible trail.
Have you ever felt that?
Like the thing you’re trying to finish—your book, your dream, your calling—is just too heavy for you to carry?
If so… this post is for you.
🔄 WHY THE SIZE OF THE STORY ISN’T A SIGN TO QUIT
There’s a lie that sneaks in somewhere between the middle and the end of every big story:
“If I were really meant to do this, it wouldn’t feel this hard.”
But the truth?
Hard doesn’t mean you’re not called.
It means you’re being stretched into the version of you that can carry it.
The size of the story isn’t a red flag.
It’s a refining fire.
You are not “too small” for this story.
You’re being expanded by it.
🧭 WHAT HELPED ME FINISH (WHEN I WANTED TO WALK AWAY)
Let me be clear: I didn’t finish this book through sheer motivation or a perfect writing schedule.
Here’s what actually helped me cross the finish line:
1. Micro-Obedience
I stopped trying to “finish the book” and focused on writing one honest paragraph at a time. That was enough. And it built momentum.
2. Spiritual Anchoring
I stopped asking, “Am I good enough to write this?”
And started asking, “God, what do You want to say through this?”
Every time I brought Him into the process, the weight shifted.
3. Permission to Finish Messy
I had to let go of the myth that a worthy book has to be perfect on the first draft.
Spoiler alert: it won’t be.
Progress > polish.
✍️ IF YOU’RE STUCK IN THE MIDDLE
Here’s your sacred reminder:
You are not too late.
You are not too inexperienced.
You are not too inconsistent.
You are not too behind.
You’re just becoming.
This story—this calling, this dream—it may feel too big…but what if that’s the point?
What if it’s meant to grow you?
📖 Try this:
Revisit the first reason you started this story.
Don’t edit. Don’t judge it. Just remember.
Then ask God for your next right step—not the next ten. Just one.
💌 WHAT I KNOW NOW
Finishing Chaos of the Stars didn’t prove I was a “real writer.”
It reminded me that God doesn’t ask for perfection. He asks for partnership.
This story broke me open.
But it also became a mirror of what I now know to be true:
The story is never too big when you write with the One who called you.
The hard parts are holy, too.
You can finish, even if you don’t feel ready yet.
And I believe the same is true for you.
