You’re Not Failing—You’re Forming a Foundation
There was a season when I thought I had failed.
Not because I’d quit writing altogether, but because it suddenly felt hard. The words that once poured out of me like water now trickled at best. I’d stare at my notes, outlines, even old drafts, and wonder why it all felt so heavy.
I wasn’t just stuck.
I was tired. Spiritually, emotionally, creatively tired.
And in that exhaustion, a quiet but convincing lie took hold:
“If you were really called to write, you wouldn’t feel this lost.”
Maybe you’ve heard that voice too.
Maybe you’re in a season where progress feels painfully slow, your confidence is shaky, and you’re wondering if all the delays mean you’ve somehow missed it-your moment, your story, your chance.
Let me tell you what I’ve learned through those “stuck” seasons, the ones that feel more like wilderness than word count:
You’re not failing.
You’re forming a foundation.
When Slow Feels Shameful
We live in a world that equates success with speed. Fast drafts. Quick launches. Constant visibility.
But the Kingdom doesn’t work like that.
God builds from the inside out. He’s not interested in how fast we move—He’s interested in who we’re becoming as we walk with Him.
And sometimes that means He slows us down on purpose.
Not to punish us.
But to prepare us.
Looking back, I can see it clearly: the season I called “failure” was actually formation. God was helping me unlearn hustle. He was inviting me to rebuild with Him—my confidence, my rhythms, my relationship with the words.
The Foundation Work Is Holy Work
There’s a verse that anchored me during that time—one I now return to often as both a writer and mentor:
“Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it.” — Psalm 127:1 NKJV
It’s not just about what we write—it’s about how we build the life around the writing.
If we try to construct a writing life without God at the center, it might look productive, but it will burn us out.
And maybe that’s why He slows us down sometimes.
To remind us that He’s not asking us to strive harder.
He’s asking us to partner with Him.
What If You’re Not Behind—Just Becoming?
If you’ve been feeling behind lately—like you “should” be further along, more consistent, more published—pause. Breathe. And consider this:
What if the quiet season isn’t punishment, but protection?
What if the pause isn’t procrastination, but preparation?
What if your current pace is the exact pace grace is giving you right now?
Because here’s the truth: You don’t need more time.
✨ You need rhythm.
✨ You need support.
✨ You need the courage to follow the One who gave you the words in the first place.
You’re Still Building (Even When It Doesn’t Look Like It)
So if this is where you are—questioning, doubting, maybe feeling a little disoriented—I want you to know this:
You are not failing.
You are forming.
And the foundation you’re building right now matters more than you know.
Let that be your starting place this month.
Instead of asking “How do I catch up?”
Try asking: “What is God forming in me right now?”
Because from that place, your words won’t just be written —
They’ll be rooted.
